Because I have a hobby for the obscure, I watched a little known Milos Forman movie this last weekend, Taking Off. His first American feature, it follows the story of two parents of a young girl, who runs away to be a hippy and go to this strange musical festival/audition that happens in a room with black walls. The plot mostly follows the parents and how they struggle and have their unique, own sort of “coming of age” experience after their daughters disappearance. But I’m not going to be talking about that part of the movie. I’m going to be talking about the women at this music festival/audition singing songs where the daughter runs off.
Logically, Kathy Bates was cast in one of her first roles in this movie: a cameo as a nameless folk singer?
I guess Kathy Bates had an earlier life where she tried to become a folk musician. She’s creditted in the movie as BoBo Bates. Does anyone know about this? I’m trying to picture Kathy Bates looking at herself in the mirror and coming up with her flower child name. Because in my head BoBo will forever be a clown name and have nothing to do with hippies and folk music. Maybe if I smoke more pot I’ll get it. Also, What has happened to this whole genre of music that involved strong emotive women with guitars? Miss those days so much, guys.
Srsly though, this song gets me kind of emo. Because I want to believe in a better world. Does the world of BoBo Bates look like this?

Lisa Frank beleived in a world where even the horses had wings. Lisa Frank brought it even further. She believed in a world where even the kitties had wings. Peace and love, everyone. Remember, we can change the world if we just believe.
