Do you guys know who Ann Liv Young is? Because I do and you should. She’s fucking amazing. And also totally out of her mind. I kind of love her in the way I love Kate Bush, only perhaps without the ironic appreciation for Kate Bush’s “retro” aesthetic that’s undeniable when viewing her work in our current era.
This weekend, Ann’s at The Kitchen with a a new performance called The Bagwell in Me. All I really know about it is that it’s a new work with original music about the life and loves of George Washington. From what I know about her, this performance could easily be as crazy of an interpretation as Brad Neely’s “George Washington.” Between Ann Liv Young this weekend and Radiohole last weekend, The Kitchen’s fall programming has been rocking my world.
For those unfamiliar with Ann Liv Young, her version of Snow White last year at The Kitchen featured her VERY pregnant, naked, a moment where she penetrates herself with a dildo, and tons of singing along to eighties music. Somehow this tells the story of Snow White. It was amazing. I can’t help but be excited for her new performance, which opened last night.
Here’s a SFW clip from her version of Snow White. She makes my pants wet. She’s the wind beneath my wings.
